- For a flavorful roast chicken consider using neutral oil instead of butter, especially for farm-raised chicken, which already has a rich taste.
Instructions
Preparation:
- Preheat your air fryer to 400°F/200°C using the roast setting for 2 minutes.
- Remove the chicken from the refrigerator 20 minutes before cooking and pat it dry with a paper towel to achieve a nicely browned, crispy finish.
- Grease both the inside and outside of the air-fryer tray with butter or oil. Season the chicken generously inside and out with salt and pepper. If desired, truss the bird. If using butter, evenly spread it over the chicken’s skin using a pastry brush.
- Place the chicken on the air-fryer tray, not on its back or breast but on its side, with the thigh and wing facing down. Scatter the chopped giblets around the chicken (not beneath it) and place it in the air fryer.
- Cook for 25 minutes, then turn the chicken onto its other side for another 25 minutes. Drizzle 3 tablespoons of water over the chicken.
- Remove the tray from the air fryer, place the chicken on its back, and rotate it a quarter turn. Cook for an additional 10 minutes. Then, turn the chicken onto its breast and cook for 5 more minutes.
- To check for doneness, prick the thigh joint; the juices should run clear. Season with salt and pepper.
- Create a foil tent, remove the chicken, place it on a cutting board or plate, and let it rest for 20 minutes, covered by the foil. Position it breast down with the tail end propped up for an almost vertical position.
- Now it's ready to serve.
